Ukulele Buying Advice

For ukuleles there seems to be a range between $90 and $130 where you can get a decent instrument. Below that and you are taking your chances. Some sound nice but others don’t. Cheap strings can drag an instrument down too and a decent set costs about $10 for some reason. Aquillas are good strings.

I have been satisfied with Luna “Honu” model soprano uke. Also I have been really impressed with Cordoba Sopranos as well. 15CM is their cheapest. 20 CM is a better instrument.   A “concert size” ukulele is a bit bigger and gives a fuller sound. I actually like them more for that reason but they tend to be a bit more than the sopranos. There are lots of others in that price range. You probably can’t go too far wrong. Online advice is sometimes dependable but who knows?

Online is an option. Randolin and Advance Music will make sure you don’t get an instrument with problems which is nice. Guitar Center in Williston might be an option too since they stand behind what they sell. I’d suggest a nice padded “gig bag” to carry it since they are cheap.

You of course can get a really nice instrument for more money but the sweet spot of playability and affordability is in that $100 range.
